Synopsis
A Land of Opportunity
Set in 1898, a year prior to the events in Red Dead Redemption 2, the story revolves around a protagonist unjustly accused of murdering Philip LeClerk. Imprisoned in Sisika Penitentiary and facing execution, the player's fate takes a turn when a group of hired guns intercepts their prison transport. Led by Horley, they are brought to Philip's widow, Jessica LeClerk, who believes her husband was killed by his business associates: banker Jeremiah Shaw, landowners Amos and Grace Lancing, and Grace's outlaw brother, Teddy Brown. In exchange for helping avenge Philip's death, Jessica promises to prove the player's innocence.
Assigned a camp and tasks, the player collaborates with Horley in Blackwater, advised to work with local sheriffs to earn money while the investigation into Philip's murder unfolds. Depending on the player's honor level, they align with either U.S. Marshal Tom Davies or mercenary Samson Finch. With high honor, the player's posse assists Davies in pursuing Mexican bandit Alfredo Montez. With low honor, Finch tasks the posse with proving themselves in a factory heist during a labor strike and seeking revenge on his corrupt ex-partner.
Following these events, the posse, joined by Horley and Jessica, confronts Teddy Brown and his gang near Fort Mercer. With the support of local authorities, they besiege the fort, eliminate Brown's gang, and capture Brown. Jessica swiftly executes Brown, and the player continues working for either Davies or Finch, aiding in dealing with Montez's gang or participating in a Saint-Denis bank robbery.
Meanwhile, Amos and Shaw attempt to take over Philip's business by pressuring Jessica to sign a forged contract. Accompanied by the posse, Jessica confronts them in Blackwater. When Amos denies involvement in Philip's death, Jessica shoots him dead. The posse retrieves the contract from Shaw, escorts Jessica and Horley out of Blackwater, leaving only Grace to be dealt with for Philip's vengeance. Jessica, now a fugitive, thanks the posse and assures them evidence clearing their name will be delivered before going into hiding with Horley.
